Our Homeworks
Design & Building
Passages
- Grant from Community Design Collaborative for planning process, some design considerations
- Engineer engaged for work on plans and to oversee building
- Liberty Resources for OBRA funding, requiring insurance numbers and other information to process funding.
- S &S Remodeling
- Introduced ourselves to the neighbors.
- Design was a struggle, given the space constraints (the downside of working within a given area, not designing from ground up)
Materials Considered, Materials Used
- HVAC-considered tankless water heater but too costly and engineer + contractor discouraged using this new eco-friendly.Considered Hybrid heating system..same result.
- Evaluation done for solar panels...not a good place. The house is all-electric.
Bathrooms
- We added an access doorway from the back bathroom to the middle shower room
- Design for the front, shared bathroom, was too small for comfortable wheelchair turn-around
- Required last-minute expansion of the front bathroom, which now works. Be sure everyone is reading and understanding plans!
- Delta automatic faucets and shower system donated by Ann's son-in-law Thank you, Jefferson!
- Mohawk Tiles provided tiles for two bathrooms and shower room at their cost! We used Florida Tile Co. Creekside floor and wall tiles, Stone White 23102 Low-mid-priced and beautiful
Flooring
- Again, we explored eco-friendly materials and considered many, many options. On the advice of UCP we used...(specs to come)
Exterior Considerations and Landscaping
- Closer examination after closing, showed several large dead trees looming over the house
- Thank you, Arader Tree Service for helping cut the trees and the cost
-
Thank you Shell Gas Station for sharing in the expense of a shared tree threat
